Jon Warren, CPA


Jon joined our firm in 1998 and has been the managing partner for the Paradise office since 2001. Jon has been in the accounting field since 2005 and has accumulated many years of valuable knowledge and professional skills in the areas of tax, accounting, consulting and auditing. Jon received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Arizona State University in 1997 and his Certified Public Accountant certificate from the State of California in 2001. Jon is experienced in providing tax services to a variety of clients including medical professionals, construction, real estate, retail, manufacturing and other small business owners. These tax services include tax consultation, compliance and planning for all types of entities. Jon also has extensive experience in audit and consulting services for governmental and nonprofit entities including single audits. Jon knows that every client is unique and has different needs. That is why he believes it is important to really know and understand each individual client in order to identify how our firm can provide the quality services that are desired. Jon is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is a member of the Governmental Audit Quality Center and the Tax Section of the AICPA. Jon is also a member of Rotary International and provides services to church youth groups, youth sports teams, and scouts. Jon enjoys spending time with his wife and five children. Bob Gustafson, CPA

Tax and Audit Manager

Bob Gustafson received his degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington in 1968, and his CPA Certificate in Washington in 1969. He received his CPA Certificate from California in 1975. Bob plans to have his retirement party and funeral on the same day, because he loves his work and clients so much! Bob has extensive experience with providing individual income tax services and is well versed in trusts and estates. He is also experienced in audits of government and nonprofit organizations. He has served as CFO in a governmental entity as well as the airline and grocery businesses. He is past president of Paradise Rotary, past ambassador of the Chamber of Commerce, and a Vietnam veteran. Jan Gilmore, EA

Staff Accountant

Jan began working with Ellis Matthews and Mike Hutton in 1984 and continued with Matthews, Hutton and Warren in 1988. Throughout her years with our firm, she has provided income tax preparation for individuals, businesses, trusts and estates. During this time, she has performed compilation and review financial reporting, payroll preparations, payroll tax reporting and has become licensed as an Enrolled Agent. She is proficient in Peachtree, QuickBooks, Excel, Word as well as several other software applications. Prior to joining MHW, Jan worked in various bookkeeping positions and obtained extensive computer skills. She also completed various accounting and bookkeeping courses at Long Beach City College. Jan has been with her husband, Al, since 1976 and has a son. In her free time, Jan enjoys camping, hiking, biking, and reading. 530-877-6793

Chelyse Chappell

Staff Accountant

Chelyse joined Matthews, Hutton and Warren in November of 2011. Prior to joining MHW, she worked for UnitedHealth Care for over 5 years as a Customer Care Professional and Quality Specialist. Chelyse completed her CTEC-approved Individual Income Tax Course and holds a Preparer Tax Identification Number with the IRS. When not at work, Chelyse enjoys spending time with her son, singing, and going four wheel driving. 530-877-6793

Tami Vago

Staff Accountant

Tami was born and raised in the Bay Area and moved to Paradise in 1980. Prior to joining our firm, she worked with Bob Gustafson, CPA, for over 20 years as a staff accountant and has extensive experience in individual taxes. She attended Butte College and graduated with an AA degree in Accounting. She has been married to her husband, John, since 1988 and they don’t have any children. Tami leads worship as part of the worship team at Paradise Alliance Church and also attends Bible studies there. She loves to read, take long walks and enjoys exercising six days a week. 530-877-6793

Keri Johns

Office Administrator/Staff Accountant

Keri worked for Bob Gustafson, CPA, as a part-time staff accountant for the 10 years prior to joining our firm. In 2017, she accepted a position with our firm to be our office administrator and part-time tax preparer. She has taken multiple courses in the accounting field through Butte College and continues to expand her tax and accounting knowledge. When not at work, Keri enjoys cooking, spending time with her husband and 2 daughters, and barbecuing with friends.

Mike is the managing partner for the Oroville office and specializes in business consulting, accounting, and tax needs of closely held businesses, professionals and individuals. Mike received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, Chico, in 1982 and his Certified Public Accountant certificate from the State of California in 1985. He has continued education classes in business planning, accounting and taxes as well as other technology related areas. Mike has thirty two years experience working with clients in a wide variety of industries and professions. He is experienced in consulting services, tax preparation and tax planning for individuals, partnerships, corporations, tax-exempt entities, estates and trusts. Mike is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Tax Section as well as the Private Companies Practice Section of the AICPA. Mike is very involved with the local community. He is a past president of the Rotary Club of Oroville, a past president of the Exchange Club of Oroville and a past president of the Fellows Club of Oroville. He has served as a member and as chairman of several public and private entities in the Butte County area including the Oroville Hospital Board, City of Oroville Loan Committee, Friends of the Library of Oroville, Oroville Cemetery District, Work Training Center and the North Valley Rehabilitation Foundation of Chico, as well as several others. Mike has been married for 45 years and has five grandchildren. He enjoys spending time and vacationing with his family, traveling and a wide variety of music including jazz, classical and popular music from the 40’s to the present.

Staff Accountant

Mary is an Enrolled Agent or EA which is a license granted by the IRS to one who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns. Mary joined Matthews, Hutton & Warren in January of 2011. Mary graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from California State University, Chico. Mary now has over six years of experience preparing tax returns and financial statements. She is a CPA Candidate with the goal of becoming a certified public accountant in the near future. In her free time, Mary likes to read novels and pursue different mediums of art, such as sketching, painting, and using pastels. You will find Mary to be a very amiable and knowledgeable professional.

Nak Vang

Office Manager

Nak joined our firm in November 2014. She assists our clients with payroll, payroll reports, sales tax reports, workers compensation reports and various excise tax reports. She also provides bookkeeping services including check writing. In addition to these duties, Nak meets clients, answers phone calls and email messages through out the year. You will find Nak to be very personable and knowledgeable.

Jeanne Enget

Jeanne Enget has extensive experience in accounting and bookkeeping and is our tax season receptionist. Jeanne greets clients and visitors and responds to phone calls and email messages for our office during this busy time. She also assists our staff with the scanning and cataloging of tax and other documents in our electronic Document Management System. If you haven't met Jeanne before, please come in and meet her. You will find her to be one of the friendliest people you ever met.
